Creating a Dream Team

Do you have a dream team?

When trying to bring a big vision to live, having a team of people to support you will help you cross the finish line faster – and easier. If you’re an independent soul, you may be resistant to asking for help or delegating.

You may think:

“I can do it myself.”

“It will only take 5 minutes”

“It will take longer to train someone than it will to get the task done.”

There are countless reasons NOT to get support. Maybe you’re worried about investing the money to pay someone. Or hiring someone will require more time than you have. Or you don’t think you can find the right person to help you.

Holding onto that resistance is keeping you where you are. It’s time to switch that thinking. Enlisting the help of others and delegating tasks will get you to the next level and free up your time.

It takes a village.

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION

Give yourself permission that you don’t have to do everything by yourself. Give yourself permission to ask for help, to delegate tasks and to invest money to pay someone. You don’t need full time employees to get started.

It’s okay to focus on the things you love and to outsource the thinks you don’t like – or that you just can’t get to.

I write and manage all of my social media marketing. Recently, I haven’t had the time to keep up with it, so it wasn’t getting done. After weeks of letting it fall to the bottom of my to-do list, I realized it was time to enlist help. I hired someone to manage it for me and now the marketing plan is being carried out.

HOW CAN YOUR TEAM SUPPORT YOU?
Now that you’re on board with getting help, it’s time to identify the tasks with which you need help. Make a list of all the items you’d like to delegate. Think about:

Tasks that eat up your time
Tasks that need to get done, but don’t because you don’t have time
Thinks you simply don’t like doing
For example, do you love to cook, but find it’s taking up 5-7 hours a week? Maybe it’s time to sign up for a meal kit service or to ask family members to pitch in (and that’s free!).

WHO DO YOU NEED ON YOUR TEAM?
Refer back to your list and identify where you need the most support. Do you need to hire a bookkeeper, a social media manager, a virtual assistant? Or maybe you need to outsource household tasks like meal planning, housekeeping or personal errands.

Once you’ve identified what you’d like to delegate, it’s time to

FIND YOUR DREAM TEAM
Where can you find a fabulous team member or two?

You can hire freelancers through sites like Upwork, Thumbtack or Fivrr. This is a great resource, particularly if you’re looking for temporary or project based work. LinkedIn’s Profinder service also connects you with freelancers.

Ask your network for recommendations. Who have they worked with that they can recommend? Where to they find great talent and team members?

Finally, look to your own network. Do your friends or colleagues offer the services you’re looking to outsource? It can be as easy as scrolling through your contact list!

START TODAY
Take those first steps. Make the list. Identify what tasks you’d like to outsource and begin connecting with those service providers.

You don’t have to get it perfect the first time. It may take some trial and error. Once you get started you’ll wonder why you haven’t started sooner.
